! ! ACTION REQUIRED ! !
Dear President Paxson,
This week, amidst the wave of hostile anti-Israel "liberation zones" nationwide, you struck an agreement with the protestors to meet a number of their demands so long as in return they dismantle their encampments. This agreement includes the following concessions:
The university’s decision to legitimize the movement to boycott Israel by bringing BDS to a binding vote is an unprecedented step towards delegitimizing the world’s one and only Jewish state.
Furthermore, that you would acquiesce to any of the protestors’ demands sets a dangerous precedent for your campus environment and sets the stage for far worse disruptions to campus life down the line.
How can we continue to ask students at Brown to hold themselves to high standards of behavior when they just witnessed you reward anti-Israel protestors for unconscionable conduct? Please recall, many of the participants among these encampments openly endorse Hamas’ October 7th slaughter of over 1,200 Israelis, a massacre of unmatched barbarity in the modern day. Their "protest" was not merely an exercise of free speech, something we support, but an unrestrained display of hatred.
Granting incentives to stop their violative activities shows weakness, not leadership. Your message is clear: flout university policies, harass your peers, break every rule, and you will be lavished with prizes.
We implore you, do not tarnish the good name of your university. Reverse your decision. Refuse to allow BDS to prevail upon your campus. The national conscience calls on you to do so.
Sincerely,
